The Greatest Gift

Original story submitted for Project Listen by Prudential. Can read it here.

As mothers, we are as varied as they come. Some of us are full time stay at home moms who excel in all things crafty and homemade, well I envy those. Some of us work part time out of the house, as teachers, lawyers, doctors, or nurses. Some of us work full time and rush home to spend precious quality time with our children before they head off to sleep. While some are still struggling with books, labcoats, computers and research to fulfill their dreams. But no matter who and what we are doing, all of us are mothers. We might spend hours looking at our little one's face when they fall asleep. As mothers, we don’t always agree on certain parenting issues. Our paths may diverge greatly. However, it’s inevitable…we will meet.

Often, our meetings occur at the intersection of worry and pride. At times it will seem like we are alone in this motherhood journey. We struggle with breastfeeding, stumble through our days, bleary eyed from sleep deprivation, and worry about the pacifier we just popped into our infant’s mouth or been studying all day to read and surveys on what are the best food to cook for the young fella. Well, I'm sure I am not alone doing this.

We mothers go through the same feeling, the ups and downs of motherhood. As different as we may seem, this journey through motherhood is what binds us. From the moment that small, pink, delicious, crying, and beautiful bundle is placed in our arms, we enter another world. It’s a world where both vulnerability and unimaginable strength abound. A world that honestly, only a mother can know. Some of us have suffered unfathomable losses and endured excruciating moments when we feel completely helpless.

Each one of us has a story to tell. One of the stories that tear my heart is Amelia's story on her “Little Heart Patient” and Mrs. Khoo's story on her “Always on my mind” story. They somehow give me different views of motherhood. This journey through motherhood is full of surprises, wrong turns, smooth paths, bumpy roads and never a smooth sailing. We can learn from examples of our own mother and mother in law , but we are the ones who will lead this journey.

My journey has just started a year plus ago, and I have admitted this is the best part in my life. I'm not going to trade my motherhood experience with anything else. So, while we should celebrate our differences, we should also rejoice in our similarities of motherhood. So, all mothers out there please appreciate your little ones. They are the greatest gift God send to you, without them you will never experience what motherhood means. Well, you should be grateful because you are the chosen one to carry the title "MOTHER". Let's enjoy our motherhood while we can.

The Greatest Gift- my story in Project Listen

Until pagi tadi perasan satu email mintak mailing address sebab nak poskan some token sebab saya dah submit story and the story has been read and shared by some people on the web.

Plus, minggu lepas dan minggu ni saya agak occupied. Last week, my only grandfather masuk hospital and I receive offer letter for MyMaster. Minggu ni busy with medical check-up, progress report writing dan ada tetamu datang ke rumah.

Sekali sekala, ambil masa 15-30 minit, baca cerita orang lain di sini, dan tonton video yang diorang upload about the life, the stories, mmg boleh memberi sedikit pengajaran pada kita. Dari pelbagai segi kehidupan, pasal kerjaya, pasal anak, pasal keluarga, pasal kesilapan masa lalu, pasal mcm-mcm.

Saya berkongsi cerita mengenai hadiah paling besar dalam hidup saya- Zuriat kurniaan Allah, Anak!
